Optimizing Information Freshness Through Computation–Transmission Tradeoff and Queue Management in Edge Computing

Edge computing applications typically require generated data to be preprocessed at the source and then transmitted an edge server. In such cases, transmission time preprocessing are coupled, yielding a tradeoff between them achieve targeted objective. This paper presents analysis of system with objective optimizing freshness received We model this as two queues in tandem whose service times independent but is monotonically dependent on computation mean value. dependence captures natural decrease due lower offloaded computation. analyze various queue management schemes where compute has single server, Poisson packet arrivals, general no extra buffer save incoming packets.
